A Happy New Year To You!

A Happy New Year To You!It is one of a pair of patterns which celebrate winter holidays by W. T. Copeland (& Sons), who were in business from 1847 to 1970 in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England. The mark bears the maker’s initials as intertwined C’s. The diamond registry mark dates the pattern to September 7, 1857.

The central pattern of a mistletoe sprig entwined with a ribbon is identical to another with the exception of the wording on the ribbon, which reads “A Merry Christmas to You” on the other. The two share the same elaborate border design in different colorations. The complex combination of foliage elements reflects Victorian-era aesthetics for holiday décor.

For members, this is pattern # 13794 in the TCC database, and the Christmas version is pattern # 13691.
